July 25, 2018

I got the pleasure of visiting Willowbrook Farm in Camp Verde this weekend, something I used to get to do every week. Denise, Hope, and Hilary have such a beautiful piece of irrigated land in Camp Verde; when you go down the driveway and cross the irrigation ditch it feels like you are entering another world. I got updated on critters (ten raccoons caught so far!), chickens (our former hen that hatched ducklings for us is still busy sitting on other birds’ eggs instead of laying her own), and all the crops growing in between. If you haven’t had a chance to visit a local farm, Willowbrook is a great one to start with. Every farmer I know loves to share their hard work with those who appreciate it. If you are ever interested in visiting farms, please let me know and I can put you in touch.

There are a few workshops coming up that might interest you local food lovers. Tomorrow, July 24th, at 11am at Cottonwood Public Library, you can attend a free workshop, Preparing Seasonal Produce. The workshop should help those of you who have a hard time knowing what to do with your CSA produce or just want to learn some new tips. Contact Lydia Watts, 928-445-6590 Ext 221 to register. On Sunday, July 29th, a workshop called Making Herbal Pharmacy with Elder Berries & Flowers will be held at our friend Denise’s farm in Page Springs. Both workshops should be full of great information!

Have a lovely week!

Things are so lush right now at Willowbrook Farm.

Denise at Willowbrook planted an asparagus patch this year. We’re looking forward to the deliciousness that will come from this patch in the coming years!

Farming in the heat and humidity can be miserable, but if you’re not outside you miss the incredible sunsets.
