I know that summer has arrived once I start canning, which means that it is here (if you couldn’t tell from the heat!). The past few days I’ve been canning my very favorite thing – apricot jam. I now have 39 jars to keep my family enjoying the taste of summer all the way until next year. Unfortunately, it is not a great year for early season fruits in the Verde Valley, but we are working hard to track down trees that are producing to share with you. If I can get my hands on more apricots, I’ll move on to fruit leather.

This week I am so excited for our first taste of Whipstone Farm’s delicious carrots! They are like candy, so enjoy them! If you’re not one for fresh carrots, try pairing them with Tyler’s leeks for a delicious Roasted Carrot and Leek soup. Either way they are sure to be delicious.

I am off to Colorado for a week, but I am looking forward to returning next week just in time for the first distribution of our flower share! I ran into Shanti from Whipstone Farm at Flagstaff Farmers’ Market last weekend and she gave me a bouquet of their gorgeous lilies. We are so lucky to have such amazing flowers available locally.
