Hot, hot, hot! Is there really anything else worth talking about this week? I don’t think any of us can even think straight with this heat! It certainly is good for getting those summer crops to grow fast, but it’s not so great for the farmers growing them. Let’s hope those monsoon rains get here soon to provide some relief for people and irrigation systems alike.

This week we get to enjoy kohlrabi for the first time this season (and perhaps the only time this season). Kohlrabi is a strange looking but delicious little vegetable that tastes like mild broccoli. You can slice them raw and enjoy them in a salad or with some dip or cook them any way you like. Just be sure to peel off the outer skin first. The leaves can be cooked like kale or any other leafy green. I’ve included a recipe for Kohlrabi Home Fries below and you can find many more recipes online. Feel free to share any recipes that you try on our Facebook page!

Happy Summer Solstice!
