October 14, 2015

Can you believe this is our last week?! It is hard for me to accept. I don’t know what I will do without my weekly influx of produce! I sure love having the guesswork taken out of the food we will be eating each week. Luckily the winter CSAs and other options we discussed last week will help me keep it local until next season.

This Wednesday, at our final distribution, we hope you will join us for our end-of-the-season potluck. We will set up the Sedona distribution in one of the ramadas at Posse Grounds Park so there will be plenty of room for eating and enjoying one another’s company. I look forward to seeing you all there! Cornville’s shareholders will enjoy Denise’s treats, which are always delicious. I wish I could be in two places at once! If those of you that pick up your shares in Camp Verde would like to join us at one of the potlucks, please let us know so we can have your share ready at that location.

Since this is our last week, I must express my sincere gratitude to the farmers and volunteers that make our CSA possible. Thank you to Skip and Terri Larson in Cornville, and Karen Dansby, Marilyn Thaden Dexter, and Jean Turocy in Sedona. I hope that you have all gotten a chance to get to know these wonderful people over the course of the season. We are so grateful for their support!

Of course, VVCSA would not be possible without our incredible, dedicated, hard-working farmers. Cory and Shanti Rade of Whipstone Farm (along with their children and interns), Denise Gould, Hope Barnett, and Hilary Barnett of Willowbrook Farm, Tyler Zander of Zopilote Produce, Marilyn and Steve Meyer of Marilyn’s Orchard, Dave and Ramona Sanders of Sanders Farm, Diane Scantlebury of Tickaboo Ranch, Denise Domning of The Farm on Oak Creek, and Rob Lautze of Garland’s Oak Creek Apples. These are the people that work tirelessly to produce our food – the most fresh, delicious, and satisfying that I have ever had the pleasure to eat. Thank you to them for their amazing bounty.

I must give thanks to one more person, who has put in at least as much time and energy as I have to make things run smoothly this season. Hilary Barnett, in addition to all her work farming, has handled all the produce purchasing, finances, contracts, and numbers stuff this year. I am so appreciative to have such a wonderful partner in running the CSA.

This week is your last chance to return your early bird contract, along with a $50 deposit, before open enrollment begins on October 15th. Feel free you bring your contracts to distribution this week. Thanks to those of you who have already committed to another wonderful season. We hope to see most of you again next season! Also, please remember to send me any feedback you may have about locations, distribution, produce, etc. We really appreciate your input.

Until next year,
Meghan
