September 2, 2015

Happy September! Fall officially begins this month, and I was able to peak at a few of the fall crops ripening at Willowbrook Farm last week. Below you can take a look for yourself at some of the winter squash that will be ready in a few short weeks. The rains over the past week have also given us a glimpse of what is to come. Everyone is saying it is going to be a wet fall and winter, so let’s enjoy these hot summer days, dips in the creek, and delicious fruits and vegetables while we still can.

We heard that some of the cabbage we distributed last week may have had brown or rotten cores. After looking closely at the cabbage that we received, we have decided not to request a refund for this produce. Chemical-free farming is a difficult endeavor, as is all farming. A vegetable that is beautiful from the outside may have bugs hiding inside. Likewise, an ill-timed rain storm can split or rot the stem of an otherwise perfect vegetable. As participants in the CSA, we are all agreeing to share the risk of these unknowns. We hope that you were able to use some or all of your cabbage and that you understand our decision. Thank you for your support of our farmers and your participation in the wild, wild world of food production.

Enjoy!
Meghan
