Have you felt it? This past week I have noticed something in the air… a cool breeze lasting almost until midday. It might not seem like it, but Autumn is just around the corner, and the morning breezes I have enjoyed this past week are signs of what is soon to come. For now though, we will enjoy the peak of summer produce, including lots and lots of tomatoes.

I haven’t started quite yet, but I think this week I will begin preserving those delicious fruits. I usually make ketchup, paste, sauce, and whole and diced tomatoes, but this year I might just try my hand at salsa as well. We’ll see if I have the energy for that one. If canning is not your style and you are looking to preserve tomatoes, just core them and freeze them in bags. Some years that is all that I have time for, but I can just dump a bag in a pot whenever I want to cook up some sauce. For more ideas, visit pickyourown.org, my favorite source for preserving recipes and advice.

This is the last week of of our flower share (boohoo!). We have loved offering Whipstone Farm’s beautiful flowers to you this season and I hope that we will be able to do it again next year, perhaps for an even longer season. Thank you for supporting our farms and all the wonderful crops they grow.

Have a great week,
Meghan
